Raised in Whangamata, New Zealand, photographer Fraser Chatham’s practice investigates connections between inherent technical ability and the possibilities of conceptual and methodological perception. After graduating with an honours degree at Elam School of Fine Arts, Fraser went on to complete the scholarship programme at Auckland’s Kingsize Studios. In both his personal and commissioned projects, Fraser’s practice examines the composition, colour and form of an image with considered and technical precision. Driven by the nexus between the abstract and studio lighting, his work challenges viewers to question the relationship between computer generated work and photography. In 2017, Fraser was named Australia’s top emerging art photographer by Capture Magazine. He currently lives and works in Auckland.
